unable to access voicemail

i recently set up my first generation iphone for my girlfriend and now i am unable to even access the voicemail screen inside of the phone application. am i missing something? i just did a restore and same thing is happening

AT&T sometimes resets the voicemail for that number. All you need to do is call her number from a different phone, when you get the voice saying the voicemail is not set up yet, press *. Then it will take you through the steps in setting it up. It should be active on the phone in the next 5-10 minutes.
