iPhone Unable to activate a call through Contact List

After updating my Apple i5 phone with ios8 I am unable to obtain a call using contact list. What can I do to rectify this please.

Other than trying the various "Reset" options in Settings, I'd say you'll have to backup and reinstall iOS 8 on the iPhone via iTunes and restore from the backup.

Do it via iTunes.

Then, restore iOS to the phone (clean install) and restore from the backup.
