Unable to boot from HDD

Hi all,

I have purchased a new 750gb HDD and have put an image on the new HDD. Now when I boot the Mac, it just comes up with either the flashing folder or the stop sign. Is there anything special i need to do in order to get the Mac to recognise the drive please?

Let's back up a bit. What year is your Macbook?

Did you format the new drive to Mac OS Extended using Disk Utility before you installed the OS?

When you say "imaged", how exactly did you do that?
