I upgraded my mini to 10.4.4 the other night. Now it fails to boot, staying in the screen with the apple logo and the spinny wheel at the bottom. When I boot in verbose mode with command-V, I see the following message repeatedly (it seems to be the first indication of a problem):

localhost /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOS/loginwindow: Login Window Application Started

So the login window application can't run, possibly because the window server failed first.

Any ideas or suggestions are welcome. I tried booting to single user mode and using fsck -f, but it ran with no complaints.
