Unable to change password on Time Machine encrypted backup?

Hi all,
I'd like to change the password on my time machine encrypted backup. It's filename.sparebundle. I go into Disk Utility-> Change Password and get this error message:

Disk Utility Progress
Unable to change password for filename.sparsebundle (inappropriate ioctl for device)

Any suggestions?
