unable to copy photos from phone to external drive

Okay so I've got a problem. I have a new 11 pro max and i'm trying to back up my photos to my external drive. It starts copying and then I get an error that the attached device is no longer working. Windows PC btw. My photos do not copy. I reset the network connections on the phone. I have tried 2 different external hard drives and get the same error message so I assume it's the phone. I'm also having a hard time with iCloud backup taking forever and a day.

The iMazing 2 app for Windows should be able to move/copy your photos to the PC. You can try out the app before paying for it. Also, why aren't you backing up your iPhone using iTunes for Windows?
