Unable to CUT from SD Card on iMac

Hey All
I can COPY from an SD card connected to my iMac, but the CUT function is greyed out.
Is there a work around? (right mouse click, edit>cut & cmd-x all dont work).
It just beeps at me.

Apologies if this has been asked before, but with no real KEYWORDS to search for the words CUT bring up too many posts.

You can't cut from any file system.

There's an undocumented way of moving, but it's considered dangerous. People have lost data doing it.

Instead of dragging, use Command-drag. There's no way to avoid the drag though.
