Unable to delete finder side bar icons

I have a few shortcuts to folders in my side bar which no longer exist, and I am unable to delete the icons.

I have tried the usual route of dragging the icon off of the side bar and onto the desktop, but they won't disappear.

Would anyone be able to help me with a solution.

Hold down the Command (⌘) key while dragging the icon(s) off the Sidebar.
