Unable to eject external hard drive

I can't eject my La Cie external hard drive after a backup. Tried ejecting it using Disk Utility, also. Tried looking at others' issue with this, but can't find which solution works.

I emptied my trash, nothing else like iPhoto, Preview, Word, etc. is running.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I think your gonna need a few more details. Also I'm not even sure you're in the right section of the forums! :rolleyes:

What Operating System? Classic OS or OSX? What computer? What type of connection is it, USB or SCSI?
 
Mac OS Maverick. Macbook air. USB connection.
