Unable to embed images into Mail

I'm not sure if this is a bug in MacOS 26 or whether I'm doing something wrong, but I can't seem to embed an image file (like a screenshot *.png file) into the body of an email.

While I am composing an email, if I drag a screenshot file to the spot where I want it to go, it inserts itself at the end of the email. I am then able to drag and drop it from there to where I want it to appear, but I never needed to do that before.

Anyone else having the same issue?

Yes it’s the stock Mail app. I’ve rebooted but maybe I should uninstall and then reinstall the app.

mail app is part of the OS, not a separate install. maybe a preference file that needs deleting? hopefully others here will have some suggestions... good luck!

I’ve reset the Mail app by deleting the mail file under Preferences.

Reopened Mail and now it is working.
