I had several dozen files - pictures, documents, movies - on a cheap little flash drive. I erased everything from the drive except for 2 movie files which would not dump. The screen said that the files were in use but I had not opened anything. I tried a few times but could not clear the drive of these files.

Worst case I just throw the drive away but I would prefer to clean it and reuse it.

Any thoughts??

If you don't need anything on the drive, just wipe it. Disk Utility -> Erase. I'd recommend MS-DOS (FAT) for a flash drive, which is probably how it's formatted now, for ease of transfer between Macs and PC's.
