Unable to get Powerbeats Pro to work with Macbook Pro

16 inch MBP running 11.1 (problem persisted on Catalina as well). Every time I connect the device, it immediately disconnects and never works. I've tried all the resets including to the bluetooth module. The Powerbeats work fine on other devices and BT on my laptop works fine with other devices, there's something specific to this pair.

I am able to get this logging from the console. I see other references to it on the internet but no resolution.

Someone posted elsewhere this resolved the issue with Big Sur

Deleting all plugins in "/Library/Audio/Plug-ins/HAL/" and restarting fixed this issue
