I have a 2011 15" MBP with an SSD in the primary bay and a 1TB platter in the optical bay. I also use an external USB DVD-RW drive when I need CD's for anything.
I plug in the CD drive and put in the Win 7 disc.
Start Bootcamp and let it create a partition on my 1TB platter drive.
Download updated Bootcamp drivers to a 16GB USB thumb drive.
After it creates the partition and reboots, I would just get a black screen. I ended up powering down and removing the USB thumb drive leaving the CD drive as the only USB device connected.
Powered back on and this time I get a flashing DOS cursor but it never proceeds beyond that.
Am I missing something here?
