Hi ya

I was given an iPhone from a friend who is with Optus and the phone is locked to Optus. I am a Telstra customer and have tried to jailbreak and unlock the phone to no avail. Very frustrated!!

I have checked the details on the iPhone and my operating system, they are:
Operating system: Windows XP
Phone: iPhone 3g
Software: 3.1.3
Firmware: 05.12.01

I have tried everything I have been able to find on the web (restoring settings via iTunes, Sn0wbreeze, Blacksn0w, Redsn0w, Ulrasn0w, Blackra1n). The phone has gone into recovery mode every time I have tried something and I've had to restore the settings all over again

I have read the Pwnang tool is only for use on Macs so I don't know what to do

If someone could please let me know what to do to unlock this phone so I can use my Telstra account I would be really grateful.... :)

Thanks in advance!!!

Bellarina

Thanks and one more question....

Thanks... is it possible to roll it back to 3.1.12 and then unlock it? I've been searching the web but have only seen blogs saying that because it is 05.12.01 it can't be rolled back and then jailbreak and unlock it from there...

I am experiencing the same problem as yours , have you tried jailbreaking it with redsnow, and if yes was it successful. May be we can discuss over the matter

I went to Melbourne last year with my factory unlock iphone. I went to Vodafone to get a prepaid card and the service lady asked if i need my phone to be unlock. I think you can pay a little money at the shop to get it unlock. You should try.

Update: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937
It states that provider in Australia is authorize to unlock iphone.

Then you have your answer.

In a word...No

We are not going to tell you anything different because it is the truth.

1. downgrade to 3.1.2
2. jailbreak
3. try to downgrade the baseband with fuzzyband

if your iphone has the right bootloader version, it will work. chances are, it will not.

good luck.
