I can see my drive in disk utility. However, the verification, mount and other options are disabled. How can I mount my drive for read/write.

My OSx version is 10.9.5. I have already tried doing SMC reset by pressing power+shift+control+option after shutting down the macbook pro.

Can somebody please help me on this?

You have to reformat it into something like ExFAT (cross platform) or Mac OS Extended Journaled (Mac only) in order to write to it. OS X cannot write to NTFS partitions natively without a utility like Paragon NTFS.

You can only mount your NTFS format Seagate External HDD as a read-only volume under OS X 10.9.5. As yjchua95 said, OS X cannot write to NTFS volume without a NTFS driver.
