Hi,

Im trying to backup some photos and files, when I try to drag the file to my external hardrive it says the "file could not be moved because the external hardrive cannot be modified"

Can someone please explain this or suggest an easy way to backup a few files, photos and itunes to my external hardrive...

Thanks in advance :)

Is it a new harddrive or have you used it before?

If it's new, it might have to be reformatted.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

The hard drive is an old one which was previously used with my pc a few years ago- I have only moved stuff to my mac from it thus far.

My guess is that it was formatted only for use by PCs. You'll probably have to reformat it so it can be used with a Mac.

If you have other files on it that you want to save, you'll have to either burn them to disc or get another hard drive.

Anyway, here is a thread that shows exactly what you need to do and is even illustrated!

Thanks Ugg. :)

I followed the easy to read instructions but it still came up with an error message.

Nevermind, I bought a new external HD and it is working fine.

Now after doing a clean reinstall of leopard I dont have iphoto anymore. LOL!

Ill start a new thread to ask if anything can be done about that.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply. :)
