Unable to open iCal Preferences.

So I just found out that my iCal is unable to open preferences nor add a new event into the calendar. I looked in the library>preferences folder, for the com.apple.ical.plist or something like that, but there wasn't anything like that there. Then I looked into my timemachine at the first day I used it, and again, there was no file there. So now, my question is, how do i get my iCal to work properly? I want to sync my Gmail calendar with my iCal.
