I was bit lost with update and Restore in iTunes.

After a while i decided to "Restore" my phone with iOS 8.0.2

I have an iCloud backup for messages etc

I don't see an option to restore, In face I don't see an option to enable "iCloud Backup"

any ideas

Settings - iCloud - Backup (3/4 of the way down the page)

To restore to iCloud backup, after you restore the firmware, chose "Restore to iCloud backup" after you enter your AppleID

Well did what you suggested and it even put back the apps

I only wanted to restore SMS which I don't think it's possible :-(

Doing an iCloud restore will restore your iMessage/SMS history assuming you have a backup which includes these.
Remember, newer backups overwrite older backups, so if you backed up a device which had no content, the older backup is likely gone.

All I wanted is to restore my SMS from iCloud / iTunes (like Android)
But both offered me to restore as a whole. I wanted to start fresh on iOS 8.0.2 but somehow the restore won't let me do only SMS.

Well in that case I will loose 1 year worth of messages :(

Just s***

In the future, check out iExplorer or DiskAid. Either program will pull anything you want off your iPhone and save it, in case an update or backup goes awry.
