I cannot get my 3G iOS 4.2.1 to restore after having problem...
Device "was" jailbroken and unlocked and worked well. except I could not multitask
I found instructions how to change the code (for multitasking) and then could not open device.
So I decided to do a restore with the custom ISPW and start again.
I have a custom ISPW, which I can access in DFU mode, by doing a shift "click" restore in Itunes.
The process almost finishes and I get an error message either 1015 or 1601 that restore could not complete for unknown reason.
Device goes back to "USB to Itunes" display
I have also tried doing a restore from Redsn0w using the custom ISPW, again seems to go through the process, When redsn0w instructs to turn device off, I (believe) the device turn off and goes into DFU mode..I have noticed that if the device is not in DFU mode redsn0w does not continue.
I get the "pineapple man" screen and then it goes into a screen with the "apple logo" in the display and the device does not change from this point.
I have looked other posts for similar problem, but the suggestions for these have not worked for me.

Thanks for any help somebody can give me.

unable to restore Jailbroken 3G iOS 4.2.1. Ipad baseband

Applejuiced:

I have tried that process and Itunes stops and show error 1015
Device ends up at restore screen

Below is the process steps I take.

Connect the device to my laptop via the USB port.
Open 'Redsn0w". (win_0.9.6b5)
Select custom ISPW - iPhone1,2_4.2.1_8C148_Restore
Check box to install IPAD baseband and load Cydia
Go through 3 step (holding off and home buttons in sequence) process to put device into DFU mode
Allow redsn0w to complete
See lots of program lanuguage on the device.
Opens screen with "pineapple" man
Goes through...."flashing NOR, Installing bundles, Activating, Flashing baseband (don't interrupt)
Screen changes to "Apple" logo
Open Itunes
Shift "click" restore and choose same custom ISPW as in redsn0w.
When I do this process...it all seems to work well until the end ("veryfing sotware and the barber poll and then back to restoring firmware show in the progress window of Itunes) and then get the 1015 error message.
Device goes back to the screen with the USB cable and Itunes logo showing.

Is this the correct process?

Thanks for any further help you can give me.

unable to restore Jailbroken 3G iOS 4.2.1. Ipad baseband

I ran redsn0w and then Itunes
Got the error message 1015
In Tiny Umbrella, "exit recovery" was active
There was a number under "show all SHSHs
Under subheading "recovery devices" there is a number with a "?" in front of the number.
the number is: 1045173307:
I clicked on the number
Clicked "exit recovery" screen changes from "usb and Itunes" logo to "apple" logo
after a while changed back to "usb and Itunes" logo.

Any thoughts?
Thanks

I do not think so...
Where would I have these, if I did have other SHSHs?
This question worries me....
Do you know what has happened to my 3G?

Thanks

Applejuiced:

there is only one number under show all SHSHs..

How do I do the other option....restoring to official 3.1.3?

As you will see I am in the Seattle area...
Is there anybody in the part of the country that could help me, that you may know of?

thanks

unable to restore Jailbroken 3G iOS 4.2.1. Ipad baseband

I found instructions online on how to downgrade the device.
I used TU to exit recovery and it worked....phew!!
I then used redsn0w and I noticed that when I chose the custom ISPW, it would only recognize the 4.2 version, so I used that to jailbreak the device and it seemed to work OK...but not as smooth as the first time.
I have yet to unlock and am working on syncing with Itunes now and will unlock next.

Thanks for all your help...I was begining to think I was stuck with small back box on no value.
Certainly a great education on the IPhone...

Thanks again

bustinjustin:

I googled the downgrade and found the instructions.
I was told to downgrade to 3.1, but some unknown reason I could only make it work to downgrade back to 4.0.
The device has now been working well so I have not worked to down grade to 3.1
I have just googled it again and redmond pie is a site that comes up.
I have also read online that people are working on a down grade of the baseband which (if I understand it correctly) will allow restoring in Itunes without using a custom ISPW
I appreciate all the work people are doing to help us all get more out of our IPhones..

Good luck to you
