unable to select chrome as default browser.

even though i do have Chrome installed my macbook won't let me pick it as default browser.

i'm running High Sierra.

in system preferences, general. it only shows safari as an option.

Sounds like a preferences file is screwed up but I'm not sure which one. It's not easy to tell!

Maybe someone else has that detail.

You can eliminate the possibility of a system-wide issue by logging in as a different user and seeing if you can choose Chrome. If you can, it's something in your particular user account.
