Unable to send imessage from iphone 4S to iphone 6

Hi

My wife has iphone 6 and I have iphone 4S. Periodically (about once a week) we exchange imessages and they don't get through. The messages appear as blue (mainly sent out and about so 3G not wifi) but clearly get held up as never get through. I know sometimes they get sent as text messages (never sure why) but here's the weird bit, those sent as text always get through, whereas the imessages are the ones not sent!

We obviously both have 3G (4G in her case) enabled and have latest IOS.

This has been going on for many months now.

Can anyone help.

Many thanks. Ironic that this article is more helpful than any of the generic advice on Apple Support forums!

Will look in detail at this. It only seems to be one recipient. Just happens to be the wife. I'm not sure she'll risk "force quitting the message app" though. That said don't know whether the problem is with me or her? After all, I only have the odd problem when sending to her phone and she doesn't seem to have issues receiving texts from anyone else.
