Hey, as thread title really. My mac refuses to shut down, log out or restart.

I have tried repairing permissions, but the only way I am able to do so is hold down the power button until it turns off, it's not something I like doing.

What else can I try?

Something running in the background must be hanging. I'm willing to bet that if you let it go long enough it will eventually shutdown. Check in the Users System Pref and see under your username if there's anything in the startup tab. If there is, then take it out and see if that fixes the issue.

Have you installed Firefox? I've noticed that on some computers Firefox 2 will prevent the computer from shutting down (though you usually get a warning/notice). It does that on my macbook cd! pain in the..
