Unable to sign into iMessages on Mac only

Hello,

I have logged into everything with my AppleID with no problems. However iMessages tells me an error occurred during authentication. This has been going on for weeks and through the latest 10.11.1 update. Any suggestions/solutions?

Try deleting your account from your Internet Accounts preferences and recreate it.

Unfortunately this did not solve the issue.
