unable to transfer file to external hard drive?

Hey guys,

I was wondering if there is an alternative way to transfer a 11GB file from the computer to an external hard drive. I tried drag and drop but I keep getting 'an error has occurred' message. Is there anyway to overcome this problem? I am using the admin account so I have all the permissions to read and write. Thanks!

Is the external drive formatted as FAT? If so, it has a 4GB file limit.

oh so how do i change it? I guess copy everything from the external to the computer and do a reformat to NTFS?

Yup. You'll need a 3rd party tool like NTFS-3G in order to let Mac read and write to NTFS drives though.
