Unable to transfer movie

I've added some new movies to my iTunes library (MP4 format).

1) Added them to my iPhone 4, no problem.
2) Added them to my iPad, no problem.
3) Added them to my wife's iPhone 3GS, problem!

I get a 'cannot be played on this iPhone' error.

Any options?
