Since last three days, I am trying to upgrade Xcode from 4.1 to 4.2.
I am running Lion 10.7.2 an Mac app store shows an upgrade of Xcode of 1.8 GB

Everytime it gets downloaded, then says installing and when done, it starts
Re- downloading it again.

Extremely frustrating. I can see Install Xcode.app
In my applications folder and that lies there unchanged...

What I understand for some reason the downloaded file from Mac app store
Is unable to upgrade the existing 4.1 installer.

Any ideas, workarounds?

i have resolved the problem with the same old stupid formula...

For some reason it was unable to update the existing file XCode Installer.app..

So chmod 777 "XCode Installer.app" and kill the process iTunesHelper from Activity Monitor...

Installation went ahead successfully. The you will see the XCode Installer.app file on Applications folder with recent timestamp and size 1.8 GB .. running it would update the existing installation from 4.1 to 4.2 ...

More detail please

OK, I killed process iTunesHelper, not enough
So, How exactly do I "chmod 777 Xcode Installer.app"?
Thanks!

terminal. just type "chmod 777" & then drag the installer app into the terminal window and press enter.
