About a week ago I started having unbearably slow internet on a Mid 2009 MacBook Pro.

The problem occurs on both wired and wireless connections.
The problem occurs in Safari, FireFox, and Chrome.

The browser stalls at the "connecting" phase of web page loading.
Speed tests are not impacted.

Sometimes it appears to load pages in "bursts".

I have tried 3 changing the DNS and still have the problem.
I have tried reinstalling OS X and still have the problem.

The problem does not occur on my desktop PC with a wired connection.

Any suggestions?

Ever since upgrading to 10.6.5 ??
If so, there are already a million of posts, primarily on the Apple forums, about 10.6.5 breaking Airport connections.

Problem also occurs via non airport connections such as ethernet.

Are you finding that the page stays blank for a long time, then - once it starts loading - loads relatively quickly? If so, that does sound like a DNS problem.

I know you've tried changing your DNS servers, but which DNS are you using? Have you tried using OpenDNS? (208.67.222.222) Put that in as the first entry, and see if it makes a difference.

You could also try pinging that address (or any DNS server) and see how quick it is.
