unbootable Western Digital external HD

I have it formatted HFS+ and Apple Partition Map. It is a FireWire drive. I'm on PPC. Nothing I try will make it bootable.

Do you have an OS on it?

The unreadable (to OSX) partitons are linux. I even tried putting the boot loader on the internal HD.
