I record high-speed videos on a Windows machine and save them as uncompressed avis. I then try to open them on my MacBook Pro (which I bought when they came out in February of this year), and I get a black screen in both QT (Pro) and VLC. (I have Perian installed, and have tried this with Flip4Mac both installed and not.) The movie plays for the correct length of time but without an image.
I assumed I was out of luck until I asked my coworker, who owns the newest model of the MacBook Pro, if he could play these movies. They play in QT without issue on his computer.
I can view the avis using a Matlab script, and have managed to use Matlab to convert the movie into jpegs which I can then open as a movie in QT. An ugly hack but it worked. Using QT Pro, I exported that movie as an uncompressed avi - which plays as a black screen in QT, even though it was created in QT... but plays fine in VLC. What the heck??
My coworker has QT 7.5.7 (which is apparently only available on new MBPs), while I have QT 7.5.5, but I don't think that's the issue... in any case when I tried copying his QT 7.5.7 to my computer the avis still played black.
Any ideas?
