Please can someone please explain the attached BATTERY LEVEL Graphic - which shows my iphone 15 on charge between midnight and 7 a.m. but is only “Last Charged to 63%”. What does the light-green ‘greyed’ out area mean between the sloping downward battery level and the 100% Level. I don’t know why the Level should gradually fall over night - with no activity as shown on the ACTIVITY chart until after 6 a.m. (Though Charging Optimisation is set to Optimised (with a Maximum Capacity of 100%) I’ve not seen any “optimisation messages” reported)

Can you explain what is providing power? Is it plugged in, or a wireless charger, or MagSafe? Can you make sure that the power-providing device is rated for >5W?

I’ve had this issue on my 12 Pro Max when I plugged it into a device (both wired and wireless) that wasn’t providing enough power while the phone was indexing, downloading app updates, iCloud backups, and more when it's plugged in and not in use.

I’m in the UK and my iPhone is plugged into one of those extension leads which has 4 mains sockets and a couple of USB sockets into one of which I plug my iPhone 15 - (my old iPhone 13 was never a problem (nor is my iPad Pro which uses the other of the 2 USB sockets)) But I can’t see the USB charging point built into the gang plug offering much more than 5W. I’ll try an actual charger next time.

But what does the shaded area at the top of the graph below the 100% level line mean, do you think ?

Thnx.

Correction - my iPhone is running IOS 17.0.3

A shaded area means it was plugged in, and attempting to charge. It doesn’t check that it actually did gain any % or anything like that.

Not sure why it worked to charge your iPhone 13 and not on the 15. As I said I only had this when the power source was supplying under 5W which wasn’t enough to actually charge the batteries and would end up causing a rapid drain as the phone was doing the normal things it does when plugged in.

Definitely recognized the charger, definitely not putting a charge into the battery. Quite possibly totally normal behavior. One example: it’s a 5w charger, and the phone is performing some functions that it pauses when on battery (e.g. iCloud backup, Photos/Messages sync, etc) that it then resumed while on charge - but the power draw exceeded what the charger could provide.

I seem to be having an issue since the iOS 17 update that my phone (XS Max) on charge will only provide will power to the phone but won’t actually increase the charge percentage. I have to restart the phone to actually get it to charge.

I would suggest you get a real charger, 35 watts, to charge your device. The output, and quality of the power, from those extension leads, or wall sockets, or any number of gimmick devices, is questionable. A real Apple charger is your best option.

5 watt charger charges my 15 PM every night. Might not if it was updating the OS but works perfectly fine for every night use.
