Undesirable automatic downsizing of pictures

Hello. Often when wanting to forward a picture I have received on my iMac or iPad, the picture becomes physically smaller when I click on "Forward". To the point that it is unreadable by recepients. How to avoid this?

(Note I have tried saving the picture on my desktop, but then the same thing happens).

Are you using the native Mail app to send? If so, there is a tab at the bottom right on the individual email window which lets you select the size of the attached image: small, medium, large, and actual. "Actual" is the largest.

Yours may have defaulted to a lower setting.
