Unibody 17 MBP Random Freezes

guys. My Unibody MBP sometimes freezes for 20 -30 seconds, and the screen stop moving, music stop playing, but the mouse pointer can move. then the beech ball keeps spinning. And after 30 seconds, it behave normally. What is the problem?

from my experience about the lagging, the hard drive is dying and it's just going to fail. make sure to backup your data soon enough.
