Hi,
I bought a Unibody MacBook in July. Everything was fine till I upgraded it to SL. I upgraded using my friends CD. While playing a video in VLC player, my screen suddenly froze, some lines were appearing on the screen and some odd noises started coming out of the speaker. All the keys were non-responsive and I had to hold the power button for 5 seconds so that I can start my system again.
Thinking it was a bad install(As I performed an upgrade), I did a complete re-format and performed a clean install. Even after that my problem didn't get solved. I waited for the 10.6.1 update thinking that it would resolve itself, but it started happening again.
I called up the local apple care number and took a case number and took it to the local authorized apple service center. When I went there, the person in charge said he will be running some diagnostic tools on the system, later he said everything was fine and he didn't understand what is triggering the problem. Apparently everything was fine during the diagnostic tests.
Then he did a clean install of Leopard yesterday assuming that it was an issue with the SL CD(My friend performed it on his MBP using the same CD and he's running it fine). And today morning it happened again( And it was on an absolute clean install, I still haven't gotten around installing other third party applications yet, I was updating my OS as it was 10.5.5). I called up Apple and asked the technical person regarding this problem and he told me to press 'Command'+'Option'+'P'+'R'+'Power' to clean the memory. Later on he asked me to create a new user and use the system using that user. He said if the problem persists, he will run some diagnostic tests...I monitored everything, fan speed,CPU,Memory,HDD,everything feels normal. These are the pictures I took when the system hanged. Any ideas on what is causing it? ANy suggestions would be helpful, its still under warranty.
P.S.: In one of the pictures, I was playing a movie and it froze, and I guess you can see the lines clearly on the other one. I took couple of videos too but I cannot upload them here right?
Thanks.
