My wife has a one of the new style unibody 13" macbook pro's. Her speaker audio stopped working all of a sudden and the headphone jack has the dreaded red light coming out of it.

I have read the posts about people using toothpicks, paperclips, match sticks, etc. into the headphone jack to get the speaker audio working. None of that has worked. But I noticed most of the posts that used this fix described having had speakers or headphones plugged in and the speaker audio not working after that. My wife never had anything plugged in. Also when I plug a set of head phones in I don't get any audio.

The other thing worth mentioning is I have the Macbook Pro from just prior to the new unibody Mac's. I can see in my headphone jack where something could get stuck but on her mac the headphone jack is pretty much smooth, so i don't see where the toothpick fix would work for hers. Can someone confirm the toothpick fix worked on their unibody mac.

Can I simply replace the audio card if nothing else works? It seems like the whole logic board would need to be replaced from what i reading.

Thanks,
The Mac
