So my 13-inch MacBook Pro's trackpad has become more and more annoying over the months. I'm trying to determine if what's annoying me is normal.

Basically, I can only guarantee the trackpad to register a click if I really push down hard on it. If I click normally--with an audible click--it will not register 50-70% of the time. I've put a YouTube video of it up at the link below.

Is this normal?

Doesn't seem normal to me. Bring it to the Apple Store. When you hear that "click" it should click.

I was both hoping for that and dreading that. I'll probably be without a computer for a week or two. Or is the trackpad unit a part they can replace in-store in a day?

I would say they probably can replace it in a day depending on how busy they are and if they have the part. Good luck and keep us posted!

I've never seen mine miss a click in the past year I've had it... Does tap to click work properly?

Yes. I hate tap to click, though... Sometimes it seems like drag lock is turned on when it isn't. I'll double tap, drag, and lift and replace my finger quickly, but it doesn't register the cancellation of the dragging mode. I have to keep my finger up for a full second or so to resume normal pointing.

So... Is that normal? :p

the same thing has been happening with mine. it is driving me nuts. i've had the computer for just over a year and the trackpad issues started about 2-3 months ago. it started out as a small issue and quickly rose to be the biggest annoyance ever. have you sent it in to get fixed? if so, how long was it gone and how much did it set you back?

I had this problem a couple months back. It was resolved by taking my mbp into the apple store and having them replace my trackpad (actually the entire base). Here are some threads talking about the issue. It took the part a few days to arrive but only a couple hours to replace. I kept my comp until the part came in, they called me to let me know it arrived, i took it in at 11, had it back by 5. Good luck, should be an easy fix.
