Im not sure if my GPU is failing. Have the NEw MBP 9400m and look what happens with this background. The bottom edges are displaying off color and distorted. It started happening a week ago at log in, now its all the time.

Sould i call apple and send it back and does anyone else have this problem?

nice wallpaper, i have the same one, haha.

probably should take it in. Does it happen from a cold boot, all the time? Maybe try resetting nvram, smc etc.

if so, definitely take that back.

Just turned on the 9400GT and then back to the 9400m and its fine! it only seems to happen at login then goes away! Wired hey

I would being it to an apple store but tahts a 1500 dollar plane ride away, im in Iqaluit Nunavut:rolleyes:

thats weird...
the 9600 GT shows it all distorted while the 9400 doesnt...

Its fine under the 9400GT but distorted under the 9400m (sometimes). I like to get things resolved ASAP. Anyone else have this problem? Should i contact apple about things issue, i do have some screen bleed but its not to bad.

As well, I dont want to have to wait 2 weeks for it to arrive in Iqaluit! If i request a replacement!

fyi, i think you mean 9600gt.

but no, i've never had this problem.

yes, that's what i meant :D

did a Tech tools deluxe scan and everything was fine! Any other suggestions?

Call some Apple tech support number. It'll get you help a lot faster than us bozos will. :)

If that were a TV hookup, I'd tell you that a cable was loose. Looks a lot like when one of your component video cables is unhooked (like red). So you may have a dud. Someone with a lot more training than me that works for Apple can probably have you a replacement or a Genius appointment in a jiffy.

Happened again when i ran EIZo - Monitor Test.

Plan on calling Apple tomorrow and see what they say. Thanks for the advice, ill reply with any solution/advice apple gives me.

can someone else test this out too?

for me, the color distortion is on the 9600 and its not on the 9400....
this is really weird

This may be a dumb question, but could it be that particular wallpaper?

The reason I ask is that if I set that particular image as my desktop wallpaper, I get a similar effect on the bottom corners. If I set any other image as the wallpaper, it seems that the effect is gone.

Any comments, feedback? Anyone else have an issue with that specific image / wallpaper?

I am certainly not an expert, so any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks, Jody.

It only happends with that wallpaper. So can other use that wallpaper and post back. if its the wallpaper, then i not as worried! Post back your resluts please.

MBP not compatable with certain wallpapers? Well thats a new one lol

Hahaha.

Yes, I know that it sounds ridiculous - hence the reason I posted.

It seems odd to me that (to date) the only graphics-related issue I have had with my late 2008 MBP is the rendering of this specific image / wallpaper.

Again, ANY other image renders fine. My concern (more of a question actually) is, does anyone else have an issue with this specific image, or is this potentially a sign of larger issues manifesting themselves at a later date?

As always, any feedback / commentary is appreciated.

Thanks,

Jody

I can see it on my Early 2008, but only when I turn brightness to max and look at the screen from some odd angle (and even then it's not so visible).

It might be the JPEG compression of the wallpaper that makes colors look like that?

Or color banding due to the 6-bit display panel..

Off topic, but where did you get the icon for your Macintosh HD. The one with the Leopard desktop image on the HD icon? Cheers.

It's a crappy image IMHO.. The coloring at the bottom corners is poorly blended or faded. It is like they did transparency, and dropped the total colors on the layer in such a way to cause artifacts like that.

My HP nc6120 display is doing the same thing with that image.

Ask and you will receive. Got it off this site from another thread!

So i guess it is the image it self. Could be the compression, or what have you! But if others are experiencing this its a picture problem:D

I know it sounds lame but it fits:rolleyes:
