I've brought my wife a digital photo frame for Christmas and the 8GB SD card i have doesn't work on my external USB card reader under OSX 10.5.6. and my new MBP late 2008

Attaching it to a windows XP machine and it works.

But hey its windows 8(

So i'm looking at cheap card readers to slot into the express slot 34.

Which one should I get or steer clear of please?

Looking on ebay there is loads of card readers for the express slot claiming to work on the MBP but all come from China

I bought this one for my MBP, I haven't used it much, so I can't really say much about it. If you want prefer to get it at a brick and mortar store, I would recommend a card reader from best buy, I can't find a url for it on there web site, but I know they sell it at the store. Its a San disk, I've used this one more than the newegg one, its works as specified. I'm going to take the best buy one back cause I don't need two of them, and I would have to pay for shipping to take the newegg one back, other wise I would prefer the best buy one cause its a name brand product :( Hope that helps

ok, I wouldn't go with the one from newegg i mentioned, I just figured out that with it in the express card slot it won't let the MBP go to sleep, it just keeps waking it up, but as soon as I take the card out it goes to sleep and stays asleep just fine. I may end up paying the shipping to return it after all :(

I bought this Hong Kongcheapo 12-in-one express 34 card reader on ebay.
It arrived fast from China and has operated perfectly.

I bought one off ebay a couple years back, cam from hong kong or china and works a treat with everything i throw at it. Works in the new unibody MBP too.

your MBP was made in China!

Belkin Media Reader ExpressCard Adapter

I went with the Belkin Media Reader ExpressCard Adapter. It sits flush with the system when no card is inserted.

Would this SanDisk reader sit flush with the unibody macbook pro? Its a good price at $20.

I tested one out at BestBuy the other day and it sits pretty flush with the case of the Unibody MBP 15". If you insert a card, the card does stick out about 1/2" if that.
