So the sound quality of the MBP leaves me wanting for at least the sound quality of an iPod. I don't know how much the problem is directly with the MBP soundcard and how much of it has to do with the hiss I hear. I have a pair of headphones that I like a lot but they are low impedance. Which means they are easy to drive (good for portables) but at the same time, they pick up any hiss that may be present. The hiss is not present when using any of three ipods I own, so it's definately the MBP.

So I'm thinking something like this may be nice to have http://www.astrogaming.com/products/detail/5/A40-MixAmp/

Using the digital out should mean that no hiss should be present. Also, this does Dolby Headphone which I like and would be useful to me since I convert my blu-ray movies to mkv to see on the MBP and I keep the Dolby track.

Does anyone here have one and would recommend it for these purposes?
