hey, just thought i'd share an interesting thing i'd noted about my unibody mbp screen. normally these screens seem to have a shallow vertical viewing angle where pure whites invert to a dark blue.
it doesn't seem to bug most people, but for me it was irksome. fortunately, i happened upon a solution that works pretty well. the freeware utility shades is a screen dimming solution that works by rendering a solid colour (usually black, but you can customize to taste) over the screen with varying transparency.
the fringe benefit to this method is that it allows you to stop your screen from ever being asked to render pure white. since the new led displays are already quite bright, i have no issue giving up that last 10% of brightness for colours that are strikingly more consistent across the vertical viewing angle. thought perhaps others might also enjoy this little trick.
now for a something even more nitpicky... i've noticed my laptop body does not sit perfectly flat: the bottom right corner is slightly raised.
it makes the computer a little wobbly, but normally i'd have been able to shrug it off. what does annoy me is that it seems to have a significant effect on the fan noise. simply by putting some wrist weight onto the troublesome corner forces it to sit flat... and somehow significantly muffles fan noise (there's no vents or anything near there, so i have no idea how this works).
so i guess my question in all of this is whether anyone else has had a similar experience, and whether there is anything that can likely be done as a more permanent solution (since applying wrist pressure on those sharp edges all the time doesn't feel like the most ergonomic thing to be doing!)
thanks!
steve
