Uninstall/Remove Quicktime 7.1.6

When I go to play .AVI videos it says "You cannot use this application with this version of Mac OS X" I am assuming it is referring to Quicktime 7.1.6. I have installed 7.5 but that did nothing. Is there a way to remove this earlier version of Quicktime?
