So I tried SwitchResX4 but it wasn't what I was expecting, and I'm having trouble with the uninstall as there seems to be some bits left around

How do I remove this so the display isn't SwitchResX4?
I went through the uninstall process the developer published. I also went through /Library and ~/Library.
I noticed a .icc profile in /Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays. I tried deleting it but on reboot it re-appeas.

Any suggestions?

This is just a longshot.

I'd try AppCleaner first, but I'll guess you already did that.

Next:
I'd try EasyFind using "SwitchResX4" as my search string.
Sometimes it finds something AppCleaner left behind.

Finally:
I'd try EasyFind, but this time use "madrau" as the search string.
I -think- that's the publisher of SwitchRes...

I was able to resolve the issue.
I had tried app cleaner, using search to find and remove any switchresx and madrau references.

What did work, is reinstalling the app, and then uninstalling it. I then searched for the switchresx, cleaned up the daemons that were not deleted and icc profile and that seemed to work. Not sure why the origional uninstall failed to do what I wanted, but what ever - its resolved.

SwitchResX - FAQ
"My ColorSync profile shows the name "SwitchResX" after uninstallation.
The ColorSync profiles settings are stored in the file named /Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist
Delete this file and reboot, you'll get a the normal settings again."
https://www.madrau.com/support/support/faq.html

As /Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist, contains other values as well, I would run defaults read /Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist and then delete only the value associated with the SwitchResX profile.
