My 1600 x 900 VGA monitor is connected to the M1 Mac Mini using a VGA to Thunderbolt adaptor. When I first start up the computer the display operates perfectly. After a few hours of inactivity, the display window shifts to the left by about a half inch. The attached pic shows what I mean.
I can still access the hidden Apple Logo and pull down the System screen by moving the cursor beyond the visible area on the left.
The display resolution drops to 1280 x 720. The 1600 x 900 option disappears.
This phenomena appears in normal viewing mode as well as in Safe Mode.
When I reboot the M1 Mac Mini, the display screen gets back to normal.
I know that the M1 Macs have some anomalies. But I’ve not read this on any forums yet.
The issue is this problem takes time to occur, like a few hours, and cannot be forced.
Does anyone have any advice on how to fix it? I have attached a pic below. Note the shift to the left that hides the Apple Logo at the top left. And a top to bottom dark vertical band on the right?
