Universal Dock and digital AV Cable

I'm wanting to play photo slideshows on my iPhone 4 on a large screen.

My idea was to have it in the universal dock, then hook up the digital av cable to the back of the dock - this way I can use the IR remote to pause on certain photos, or speed along through others.

It doesn't seem to output any video though whilst the iPhone is connected up via the dock. If I plug the cable straight into the phone it works fine, with the exception of no remote control.

Are there any fixes for this I can do via plist editing or otherwise?

The dock may not pass through the correct pins or they could be in use by the remote. There is no way around this if that's the case.

Ah well, was hoping it was some sort of software that didn't allow it that could be quickly edited out.
