I just bought a universal dock and when I connected my iphone 4 to it I got this error message on the screen of the iphone 4

"This accessory is not optimised for this iPhone. You may experience noise caused by mobile interference and a decrease in mobile signal strength"

iTunes gave me this error message. "iTunes could not connect to the iPhone because an invalid response was received from the device" but if I just put the iPhone 4 back in the dock it seems to work fine or could I risk damaging my phone? The above two error messages have only appeared once.

The packaging doesn't actually say it supports the iphone 4, it only goes up to iphone 3g. The dock adapter numbers are 9,10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 & 17. I'm using the adaptor numbered 12 but I don't think it matters as long as the iphone fits on top?

It looks the same as this http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MB125G/C?fnode=MTY1NDAzOQ&mco=MTg1MTEyNjI

do I need an iPhone 4 adaptor? my iphone didn't come with one. http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC598ZM/A?fnode=MTY1NDAzOQ&mco=MTg1MTEyODc

I assumed all universal docks were the same accept for the updated packaging or have I actually bought the wrong one.

I have the A-rev of this dock and it works without issue on the iPhone 4 (with bumper and no dock adaptor for those curious). I think you should return the dock and swap it out.

The dock you bought actually isn't the latest version. The latest one only has 5 dock adapters and supports the 3gs also. It should still work though, not sure why it's giving you trouble. If you bring it back to the apple store and tell them, they'll replace it for you or get you the newest version. Shouldn't be a problem.

I got it from a shop called HMV and took off the security sticker and plastic packaging cover but the receipt says 21 days return if in perfect condition and in original packaging so seen as I took it off not sure if they will refund me. We don't have an apple store here but we have a shop called KRCS https://www.krcs.co.uk/pages/home do you think they would let me take it in there and swap it for the iphone 4 compatible version? or even be able to post it to apple for them to exchange it?

You can try Apple first. If not, then go back to the seller. Not sure what policies are like over there in the UK, wouldn't be able to tell you.

As for the dock adapter, if you're going to use your iPhone naked and want a perfect fit, then get the required adapter from the Apple store. If you don't care about a perfect fit, I find that the dock adapter for the ipod classic works just as well.

I have the same problem but I'm not using an adaptor with it.

Revision is MA045G/A

Maybe it only works if the correct adaptor is used? I've noticed that theres a button or some sort of mechanism which is triggered when an adaptor is in use.

Maybe it's as simple as buying the the correct adaptor?

If not, then why is Apple selling adaptors for it?

Hi, I sold my universal dock to an iPhone 3g owner. As for the adaptors I never noticed a mechanism for each adapter I just thought having the correct adaptor was to hold the iphone or ipod more securely when docked. If I were you I would contact apple to ask before purchasing the iphone 4 adaptors. I'd be interested to hear if they fix the problem.
