iPod Universal Dock/Remote question

I'm thinking about buying a universal dock - My understanding is that the remote that came with my MBP will also control the iPod (when docked). Can you pair the remote with one or other device? I don't want to be inadvertantly controlling the iPod when navigating front row (for example)?

EDIT - found the answer, didn't look hard enough in the first place. Thread closed.
