Ok, I've been a Mac user since System 7 and I've never had any trouble with viruses or bugs. I've never had the system crash for no reason, I've never had an HDD failure... etc etc.

So I've never had any problems, basically.

Now, in all the years I've been with Mac, I have remained shockingly ignorant to the reasons it's so great. I know it IS, I just don't really know WHY.

Lately I've been trying to convert people to the Way Of The Mac and have realised how ill-equipt I am to deal with some of the questions Windows users ask when I challenge their OS.

Some examples:

- What makes OS X so much better than Windows? (beyond the fact that it looks better and comes with a much more useful set of standard apps)

- How come OS X is so much more secure than Windows? (I have also been told "Apple don't include any security features in their OS, Microsoft are way ahead in terms of security in Vista")

- How come it never crashes?

- OS X is harder to code for than Windows. Windows is far more dev-friendly.

Now, I'm thinking that I could answer all the above points much easier if I had a better understanding of MS-DOS versus UNIX, am I right? And if so... Could someone please explain to me the basics of both operating systems, how they work and what the pros and cons of each are?

Thanks a lot for any replies, I know this probably isn't the kind of question that this forum is meant for, but I need to know
