I was doing some cleanup after uninstalling a boat-load of old apps and I ran across a folder called I3000 containing one file: EFORMAT.INI. the first few lines are as follows:

; This version is for Holtek internal memo since 20071114
; This file can only be used for I3000 and ISPDLL.dll
[Version]
DateCode=17:00,MAY23,2013
VersionCode=2

Any ideas what this is for?

Here's a way to find out.

Navigate to where you can see this folder (I3000) in the finder.

RIGHT CLICK on it, and choose "Compress I3000" (or it may be something close to that).

This will create a zip archive of the folder.

Now, DELETE the folder and empty the trash (DO NOT delete the zip archive).

Next, reboot.

Now, just run the computer a few days. Do things still run just fine?
If so, looks like deleting the folder (and the file inside) was of no consequence.

HOWEVER...
If things suddenly don't work right, you can go back and just double-click on the zip archive to restore the folder and its contents.
Then things will be "back where they were" before you created the zip archive.

I found the file in question mentioned here first in part 2 of this 8 part article.
It appears to be a firmware updater with micro-controllers (maybe for a mouse).
I didn't continue reading. It's very long and detailed.
