I successfully installed 4.2.1 on my 3GS while keeping my baseband at 5.13.04 using the Dev team's instructions here. How do I now jailbreak and unlock my 3GS keeping my baseband?

EDIT: When I point redsn0w to the custom firmware that pwnage tool created for 4.2.1 it doesn't recognize it. Should I point redsn0w to the original 4.2.1 firmware?

Thanks in advance and happy holidays!

Yes. If you don't have it already you have to go get it for redsn0w to work.

Happy holidays means the terrorists win, Merry Christmas :D

Ok, I've download the original 4.2.1. Redsn0w asks me if I have the newer (fixed) model. According to my serial number my iPhone was made week 47 so should I press yes or no (since I have the 5.13.04 baseband).

Just trying to be precautious so I don't lost my baseband.

Verify your boot rom with iDetector.

Not sure if bad things happen if you do the wrong one in redsn0w.

How did you update to 4.2.1 and kept the baseband? Didn't you update using a custom firmware file (one that keeps the baseband)?

OK, I do have the new bootroom, but I've run into a problem. I ran redsn0w all the way through and I appears as though it finishes smoothly, but the cydia icon on my 3GS is white and crashes immediately upon launch.

Followed Dev Team's instructions and used their custom bundle with pwnage tool to create a custom 4.2.1 ipsw that I used in iTunes to ugrade the os to 4.2.1, but keep my current baseband of 5.13.04.

Well done, I think you are good.

With new bootrom you are tethered jailbreak so just rerun redsn0w and use the just boot just boot tethered right now option.
