I have a pristine 64GB 4s for AT&T. does it make sense to unlock to try to maximize sale or is the AT&T market of buyers so large that it just doesnt matter?

If you wait too long(even a week after your new iPhone5/new contract) for AT&T to unlock, resale price will go down. One option is to use eBay unlock to get the best return.
