I've been having a problem where my phone will not unlock with my watch. It says "Enter passcode or face ID to enable unlock with apple watch" so I put it in and it still won't unlock. I looked in settings to make sure that the setting is enabled, and it is, but in the place where I turn it on it doesn't say the name of my watch (For example in the picture below; it says Ameya's Apple Watch) mine says "Apple Watch". I've found that it only happens after prolonged periods of time, and turning the setting on and off fixes it until I leave the phone locked for an extended period of time. Does anybody have a fix? I've tried erasing all content and settings but that didn't help. I might try removing the activation lock and then resetting it to see if that helps.

That’s by design. Just like FaceID on iPhone, you have to re-authenticate at regular intervals. Your watch and phone can have different passcodes. I’d check that it’s the correct one that you’re entering.

So the problem isn't the password, the problem is that even if I put in my passcode to enable unlock with apple watch, it doesn't enable it. The only way to get it to unlock with apple watch is to turn the setting on and then off. Then it will work. It just annoys me that I have to keep turning the setting on and off.

I've tried wiping the watch, but not removing activation lock. I'll have to try that later today!

Apologies...I've not heard that term, activation lock. I think you might be saying that selecting "Unpair Apple Watch" in the watch app on the iPhone is equivalent to removing the activation lock. Is that right?
